Drug & Alcohol Detox Program near Santa Rosa, CA

For many people seeking substance abuse treatment programs, detoxification is the first step of the process. When a person has been using substances for an extended period of time, his or her body becomes used to the presence of those substances.

Drug & Alcohol Detoxification Process

In order to successfully complete treatment, the first step is to end one’s reliance on substances and rid one’s body of these harmful drugs. This process is known as withdrawal and can often be accompanied by a range of unpleasant symptoms. During the withdrawal period, a person often experiences intense cravings for his or her substance of choice, and these cravings are made stronger by the fact that taking another dose of one’s chosen substance generally makes withdrawal symptoms dissipate. As a result, people who attempt to withdraw from substances without professional detoxification are often unsuccessful.

Understanding our Detox Program

During our drug and alcohol detox program, a resident will live at Azure Acres Treatment Center and go through a safe withdrawal process before moving into the next phase of residential treatment. While each person’s experience in detox is slightly different, most people complete detox in three to ten days. Throughout a person’s time in detox, he or she will be cared for by healthcare professionals and other members of our treatment team who will work to ensure the detox process is as safe and comfortable as possible.

Residents in our Sonoma County detox program are encouraged to participate in treatment as much as they are able. Depending on their withdrawal symptoms, residents can attend individual counseling sessions, participate in groups, and engage in recreational activities throughout the detox process. Group types include relapse prevention, family education, experiential groups, psychoeducation, 12-Step meetings and address topics such as forgiveness, honesty, anger, denial, anxiety, codependence, acceptance, and 12-Step education.
