Alessia Bhargava, MD
Consulting Psychiatrist
Dr. Alessia Bhargava is a Board-certified psychiatrist who is also Board-eligible in Addiction Medicine. She supports Azure Acres by providing psychiatric supervision to Psychiatric-Mental Health NPs and psychiatric consultation services to Azure’s medical team. She specializes in co-occurring psychiatric disorders as well as substance use disorders and has worked extensively with a broad variety of patient populations, including incarcerated populations, patients with psychotic disorders, and patients with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Given her background in business and past employment with McKinsey & Company, she also understands the stressors of executive work and management and connects easily with working professionals in recovery.
She believes that taking a whole-person, biopsychosocial approach to addiction allows for a fuller consideration of what is going on in a patient’s life, which then informs the best treatment plan for a patient. Her goal is always to give any patient the highest chance of success in achieving and maintaining their recovery, and she believes this involves addressing both substance use disorder concerns as well as mental health concerns concurrently.
She currently holds positions with Eleanor Health, where she provides outpatient psychiatric services with a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach to help individuals in recovery live amazing lives, and Aledade Care Solutions, where she provides consultations on medically complex patients with behavioral health needs.
She received her MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017 and also holds a BA from Yale University as well as an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Psychiatry residency and Addiction Medicine fellowship at University of North Carolina Hospitals. Her hobbies include swimming, Pilates, and reading.
