Joshua Katell, MSW, ASW
Therapist
Joshua joined Azure Acres in October 2022 as a Therapist. He is an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) who has previously served in a variety of settings with several diverse populations, most recently in the field of Forensic Mental Health. Joshua graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University in 2020 with a Master’s degree in Social Work. He received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Stanislaus in 2016 in Criminal Justice with a concentration on Corrections.
Joshua is joining Azure Acres after working for close to two years as a Forensic Mental Health Clinician for the Conditional Release Program (CONREP) in Santa Rosa, CA. CONREP provides intensive outpatient treatment and supervision for individuals committed to the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) for violent felonies, typically after being found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. Prior to working for CONREP, Joshua worked for two years as a Social Worker at an Adult Day Health Center, and before that, nearly three years as a Behavioral Therapist for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Joshua’s past employment history has led to working at Azure Acres, primarily due to his observation of how substance use disorders can devastate the lives of individuals, families and the community, particularly when they are also dealing with a Severe Mental Illness (SMI). He chose to work at Azure Acres because of the facility/team environment, company culture, and opportunity for growth as a professional prior to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) next year. Joshua utilizes a Solution-Focused approach to treatment, which relies on the principal that the solution to all of life’s problems, including chemical dependency, can be elicited from within an individual if they are willing to make a change. He also uses a client-centered Motivational Interviewing (MI) approach to meet clients where they are at in the Stages of Change.
